Saving the Sergeant on the Battlefield
Sgt. Cooley (James Drury) tries to help World War II recruits function as a unit to prepare them for combat, stressing teamwork. One of the young men, Hacker (Steve Carlson), is taken aback by the brutality of war and reacts by becoming a killing machine, shooting a German who was in the midst of surrender. He is reprimanded by Cooley, but redeems himself by bravely saving the sergeant on the battlefield. Later, the men become good friends back home.
