When panic grips Los Angeles in the days following Pearl Harbor, the city’s paranoid residents mistake everyday chaos for a full-scale Japanese invasion. As hysteria spreads across Hollywood, a cast of eccentric characters—including Wild Bill Kelso (John Belushi), a crazed fighter pilot; Sergeant Tree (Dan Aykroyd), an overzealous tank commander; and Ward Douglas (Ned Beatty), a homeowner desperate to protect his family—collide in a series of increasingly absurd misadventures that transform the City of Angels into a war zone of its own making.
